Make: QMM
Scale: 1:50

This extremely rare Volvo P 1800 miniature has been produced in Chile. The brand is QMM or probably MMQ, the bottom plate has a logo showing two M letters on top of each other and a "Q" around. This logo is difficult to recognize on the underside of the P 1800 car, because the print is indistinct. Therefore I added some pictures of Volvo PV 544 miniatures of the same brand showing this logo clearly. The lightgrey bottom plate of the P 1800, fitted with two rivets to the body, is marked "Volvo 1800", beneath "Fab. QMM Chilena", beneath "Sport".

The 1:50 scale metal body is produced in one piece with the bumpers and rear lights, the clear plastic front lights are glued to the front which shows a much too large grille with the "V" inside. The interior and the left hand side steering wheel are plastic made and the windows are from clear plastic too. The front indicators and the rear lights are painted red. The tyres are rubber made and the ends of the axles are large - looking like big round chromed hubcaps.

The mould of this chilenean miniature is not very exact, especially the frontgrille and the design of the doors are wrong, the rear end is lying higher than the front but it's too flat missing the part under the bumper. Nevertheless the proportions in total - especially seen from birds view - are are okay.

Some features of this chilenean P 1800 are similar to the english Corgi Toys modelcars, even the design of the underside with two long parallel crossbeams.

Probably the manufacturer in Chile tried to copy the Corgies, which are some millimeters larger
