Mandarin is a very difficult to find miniature manufactured in Singapore. The mostly silver and rarely black painted undersides show a wrong bottom design with strange double exhaust pipes and axles The bottom text is "Dynamic Gear", made in Singapore, No.106, Volvo 1800 S, Mandarin. The usually metallic painted cars have yellow or white interior with a right hand side steering wheel produced in one piece. They have front and rear window glasses made in one plastic part, but the side windows have no glasses and the pillars of the rear side windows are missing. The front with the "prototype-V", the strange rear side and the bottom are made in one piece too. The Mandarins are fitted with black plastic racing wheels and silver painted hubcaps showing a 6 spoke design, which have been pressed in and which are missing sometimes. There is another version of tyres, grey or black plastic, a little bit smaller and more plump formed, wearing black and silver printed paper stickers with 5 spoke hubcaps. Mandarin miniatures have been sold blistered on yellow and white coloured cards showing the Mandarin logo and the information: Die cast metal, made in Singapore (written in small letters) and Superwheels (written in big letters with a wide rolling tyre). I don't know boxes for these miniatures. Peter 30/01/06 |
