In the late sixties Ichiko produced a very decorative 1:18 scale sheet metal miniature of the Volvo 1800 S.

The Japanese manufacturer used some additional plastic parts for the head and rear lights, for the frontgrille and usually for the wheel covers of the black rubber tyres. Only sometimes they used sheet metal hubcaps instead of the plastic ones. The straight version side trims are a feature of Volvos later 1800 S produced cars from '67 and later on. Of course this sheet metal miniature has the straight bumper version too. A very nice feature is the opening doors. Inside you can see a blue interior with a dashboard marked "Volvo P 1800, completed with a blue plastic steering wheel. The blue plastic seats are movable. The black bottom plate isn't marked but looking through the rear window you see the Ichiko logo and "made in Japan" on the board behind the rear seats.

These Volvo 1800 miniatures are friction powered at the front wheels.

Available colours have been red and rarer redmetallic, creamwhite, silver and presumably blue too.

A very rare version is the white Polis car with a bluelight on the roof and "Polis" on the boot and bonnet.

Ichiko sold the civil version Volvos in white boxes, with a red 1800 S with opened doors on top and on the large sides All sides are marked "Volvo 1800 S, friction powered". On top of the box is the Ichiko logo with "made in Japan", "quality first toy of Ichiko". The small blue printed sides have the Volvo logo.
