Spot On started the production of the Volvo P 1800 miniatures in 1963.

These nice miniatures have been manufactured in Belfast / Northern Ireland.

The chassis and the bottom are made of metal, the interior, the clear window glasses and the bumpers - the front bumper is one piece with the front grille, the indicators and the headlights - are plastic. The bumpers wear black paper number plate stickers with white letters. The wheels are silver and the tyres are made of rubber

The bottom has the following inscription: Spot On, models by Tri-ang, 1'42 scale, Volvo P1800, made in the United Kingdom, This car is fitted with flexomatic independent suspension.

The first version of these miniatures is fitted with opening boot and bonnet.

The opened bonnet shows a silver painted motor, which is one piece together with the white, yellow, red or blue interiors. If you open the boot you find a spare tyre inside.

These miniatures have been sold in nicely drawn light blue boxes, which show a red Volvo, the Spot On and Tri-ang logos, the number 261, Volvo P1800 with opening boot and bonnet, made in N. Ireland. Very interesting is the fact that the buyer was invited to send ten empty boxes to the manufacturer to get a free model.

Maybe a reason for the rarity of these boxes.

After a longer time of production obviously Spot On had difficulties with the fitting of the boot lids.

Some few miniatures have a boot lid that looks repaired. The lids have extra rivetings with their hinges.

In fact of that Spot On changed the moulds of this car and closed the boot.

All the late versions with an opening bonnet only, which are fitted with gray interiors now, have been sold in bigger boxes with a window to see the colour of the car inside. These complicated foulded boxes are printed red, black and blue with yellow walls inside. Outside with the Spot On and Tri-ang logos and the number 261, inside the text "with opening boot and bonnet" now is covered with a sticker "opening bonnet".
