Paint codes – manufacturing codes

Some color codes are indicated with an additional number, e.g. 79-1, which indicates a different supplier (paint manufacturer) and potentially a different shade of 79. The reason is that Volvo uses several different subcontractors for some of its topcoats. The color should correspond to Volvo’s pearl white (79), but shade differences can therefore occur. Volvo therefore recommends that touch-up paint is consistently purchased with the same number. Volvo considers some shades to be synonymous with each other and consequently sells touch-up paints for several shades (e.g. 79 and 79-1) under the same part number (277346).
From 1978, code numbers were changed so that each supplier was given numbers as follows:
-1=Glasurit (BASF)
-2=Herbert’s
-3=Beckers
-4=ICI
-5=SIKKENS (AKZO)
-6=Lewis
-7=Sigma
